Another day, another sandwich.
This time I can’t blame the sandwich dinner recipe on being busy because as it turns out, I am always busy. But as these things usually happen, there was some really good looking lipie (bread) at the market and even better, it was fresh from the oven warm. Instantly I thought, sandwiches!
I know this isn’t a traditional smash burger because I didn’t smash it down and I didn’t even leave it in it’s true burger form, but it’s the style of burger I was going for in spirt and in flavor. So maybe just let me call it a smash burger because my only other choice, which my husband refused, was to call it a loose meat sandwich like the diner from the TV show, Roseanne. Anyone remember that show from the 90s?
Anyway those were my options and vegan smash burger sounded more palatable so here we are.
How do you like your vegan burgers? More importantly, what brand is your favorite?
We have Beyond burgers here so that’s my top tier, go to favorite. But Verdino and Naturli also make pretty good burgers too. So let’s get some vegan burgers on our plates, y’all!
What You’ll Need:
*Mixing bowl
*Chef’s knife
*Cutting board
*Flat wooden spoon
Ingredients:
*Vegan buns (pick your favorite burger bun)
*Onion
*Vegan Worcestershire sauce
*Vegan mince
*Vegan burger patty, chopped or diced
*Dijon mustard
*Bell peppers
*Tomato sauce
Make Your Sloppy Smash:
*If you’ve ever had a Sloppy Joe then you know what comes next. Rinse and chop your veggies and set up a mixing bowl on your kitchen scale, if you use one.
*Start with the onion and bell peppers, sautéing them over medium-high heat for 3 to 5 minutes.
*Add vegan burgers to the mixing bowl and season, go a little heavy with the Worcestershire sauce, I promise you won’t regret it.

Stir in the diced vegan burger patty, adding herbs and spices as you go along. Cook 3 minutes and then add the vegan mince.
*Once the mixture is starting to look brown and yummy, stir in soy sauce, mustard and tomato sauce until well blended. Add water if you find your Vegan Joe too thick, or more tomato sauce if you want it thicker.
*Bring it to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes.
*Warm up the bun for 2 to 3 minutes. I’m lazy and I just warmed them in the oven but you do whatever feels right.
*Plate it up and feel free to add ketchup and mustard to the buns if that’s your thing b/c it is totally my thing! I know it’s not traditional but you can also add your favorite brand of vegan cheese.
*Serve it with an ice cold beer or whatever cold drink you like and enjoy.

The vegan sloppy Joe looks so good. Most of the time I’ll have vegan burgers over greens, but sometimes I’ll splurge with a bun and all the fixings.

Same! Over greens or other veggies is how I can do without worrying too much about calories but some days you just need the fixings!
