New Vegan Eats in Brașov

As you all know, I love to get out in the world when the weather warms up and thankfully there’s no shortage of places in Romania to spend a sunny day. One of my favorite places to hang out is Brașov, and when I visited last week I realized that it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it during the warm weather months.

There’s a Christmas festival that I really enjoy so we usually go up for that but this time it was like visiting it for the first time…in more ways than one!

First it was so nice, blue skies and hot sun which made it really easy to see the Brașov sign, as you can see below.

As a ghostwriter and indie author, I spend most of my days indoors so I get a little giddy when I get big doses of sunshine, and my skin gets a golden brown color that I’m sure everyone is super jealous of! 😛

I can’t remember the last time I was here when it was warm enough that the fountain was actually on so, of course, I had to snap a quick pic with it. This is one of the many piețelor, which is basically a market square with restaurants all around, benches and lots of open space for the little ones to play. It’s relaxing even when its overrun with people.

One of the nice things about my schedule is that I can visit these places during the week when it’s less crowded and we managed to go right before May Day so there were a lot of people but not a ridiculous amount.

We found two new places to eat, Vegasmo and Raw Delicious, which I’m going to tell you all about.

Vegasmo

Since we took the scenic route to get to Brașov , we were starving when we arrived so we parked and made our way over to Vegasmo, which oddly enough was located in the exact spot as another vegan restaurant Rawdia that we visited years ago. Back then I wasn’t really into raw food so I didn’t appreciate/enjoy it the way I would now but that made Vegasmo easy to find!

Sourdough & bean dip starter

Vegasmo is a fully vegan restaurant so everything was on the menu for us. Everything but dessert because honey is a toss-up for lots of vegans and I often find honey as the sweetening agent in vegan desserts at vegan restaurants, at least here in Romania.

The menu wasn’t full of traditional Romanian food but vegan, which was nice. The place has a clean and modern feel and there were more diners inside than I expected.

We started with fresh wheat sourdough and a bean & cashew dip with Zatar and grilled onions. It was delicious and the bean dip was so creamy and decadent that I had to slow down before I inhaled it.

He ordered a white bean & beet burger because he had his mind set on a burger and it was the only one on the menu. The burger was good, though it needed a bit of seasoning and it suffers from the thing a lot of gourmet burgers do, it was too big to eat without squishing out all the burger goodness.

I ordered vegetable muffins with onion, red bell pepper, zucchini, garlic, cashews and chickpea flour. It came with a roasted red pepper dipping sauce that was good, but unnecessary as the muffins stood on their own.

Overall it was a nice and refreshing place to eat and I’m glad we tried it out.

We walked around after lunch, making stops at a few sights we’ve seen before but I always love and there were a few things I hadn’t seen.

Delicious Raw

Now this place was a truly surprising find and by surprising I mean that we found it by accident while we were walking through the piata.

Like any good vegan foodie, I went inside with the intention to grab a few treats to take home. BUT they had an amazing offering of all vegan ice cream with fresh ingredients and no honey. So you know what I did…ordered a lot.

We ordered four flavors: lavender, salted caramel, rose & mint, ginger & lemon. Each was was super delicious but you know what? The mint, ginger & lemon was my favorite. I couldn’t stop eating it. Truly. But they were all good and I’d order any of them again.

We took home a truffle, a Znickers and a vegan Dubai chocolate style bar. It was all made with varying degrees of dark chocolate and super delicious.

Highly recommend. Would–and will–go back again.

And again.
