Vegan Indian in Brasov & Feldioara Citdel

Happy Monday! How are you doing in this post-weekend world?

I’m good but busy. It’s always a struggle to post the photos and recipes, especially when my week has been particularly busy, but we’re here for another week and I’m determined to get it all done.

Last week was our 20-year anniversary!!! I know, I know, it’s hard to believe that I’ve been married 20 years when I look 35 but it’s the truth! BUT it’s true and this year we spent our actual anniversary at Feldioara Citadel, also known as Cetetatea Feldioara-Marienburg in Romanian. You’ll be happy to know that I’ve also spent time in Marienburg in Germany so it’s kind of full circle to (finally) get to see this citadel with Teutonic Knights memorabilia and so much fun, exciting and historical stuff.

We spent the day at the citadel and when we were done we hit up a vegan Indian spot in Brasov that we hoped would be just as good as the namesake we experienced in Germany. But…it shared a name but not the experience.

Kashmir Brasov

This Indian restaurant was…okay. The food was just okay and the service was also,,,okay.

I ordered the mushroom curry which was good, but need a bit more seasoning to get hte job done. Cos ordered a red bean curry which was also good but could definitely benefit from a bit more seasoning. The curry flavor was GOOD but as any good home or pro chef knows, it’s all about bringing ALL the flavors to the forefront.

The “Naan” was good but it wasn’t Naan even though it was fatty and the green herbs were delicious. Actually, I think it might’ve been the best part of the meal because everything else was good but that’s about it. I’m definitely planning to make the vegan mushroom curry to see if I can improve upon it.

The overall experience was good because I was hungry but it wasn’t anything to write home about. The visit to the citadel was much better.

The history and knowing that the Marienburg citadel was connected to Feldioara was truly a magnificent experience for this history nerd. There have been a lot of improvements on Feldioara, some of which are obvious but still it was nice to see all that was left over, including vases and other artifacts that were uncovered in pieces.

It was a great bit of history that I really enjoyed.

Anytime you give me history, a foreign location and a day trip, I am a happy camper and even though there’s been a lot of work on Feldioara Citadel it was still an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two, experiencing the history of this place.

As a student of history, I am amazed at the rich history that Romania has, complete with German, Austrian and Roman influences just to name a few. If you find yourself here you just might be amazed at all the layers you’ll uncover.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to an Indian restaurant where the food needed more seasoning!
It is definitely hard to believe that you have been married 20 years! You look great!

The spices were great but it was lacking that pinch of salt that brings out the flavor of each ingredient, that’s all. Thank you, I’ve been working on it! 🙂

So often it is simple salt or acid that a dish needs, and usually not that much of it.

Yes! It’s something I wish every cook–pro or at home–would learn.

Happy Anniversary! Looks like a great day, even the meal was a little less than yes.
