Vegan in Roma: FINAL DAY

Okay y’all, I promise that this is the last day of my fantastic trip to Rome. There are literally hundreds of photos I could share with you but this is The Spicy Spatula and I’ll keep it–mostly–to vegan food in Rome.

The last day in Rome was a short-ish one. Our flight back to Romania was at five so we had about half a day to soak up a bit more Italian culture and sites in Rome. We hit up a few of the places that were too crowded the first (or second) time we swung by to really see it, like Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. I took a few (hundred) more photos and got a really great tan, and if you’re wondering, yes black people can get tan!

My in-laws were also surprised.

We started the day with a vegan brunch at Buddy Roma. I don’t know how you guys like to do things when you eat out with your significant other but we always split or share our dishes unless it’s one of the few things one of us doesn’t like. Our last vegan meal in Rome was no different. We ordered the American Vegan Brunch (of course) and the Vegan Brunch special. Each brunch special came with your choice of toast or pancakes, brownies or carrot cake, different juices (fresh orange, apple or pineapple), and your choice of coffee or water.

Since it was brunch in Rome, we both started with a Corretto coffee because, why not?

The American brunch came with a vegan omelette, vegan bacon, salad, beans, and toast. The Vegan brunch came with scrambled tofu, bacon, beans, avocado, and salad.

It was all absolutely delicious. That omelette has me rethinking my stance on whether or not I miss eating eggs. For the record, I do not, but this omelette was fantastic, stuffed with several types of vegan cheese and thinly sliced scallions. It was the best vegan omelette I have ever eaten. The vegan bacon? Best vegan bacon I’ve tried so far. To be fair, vegan bacon runs out quickly in the stores or online so I don’t have a lot to judge it against.

Best vegan brunch I’ve had so far!

And then…we were off. Again! The sun was shining bright and there was one more thing we both HAD to try. Gelato!

I’ve never been a big fan of gelato and I tried it several times living in the States but even the few times I tried it in Germany, because for some reason there are TONS of gelato shops in Germany, I still didn’t like it. But I kept an open mind and ordered pistachio and coconut gelato. The Hubs ordered the same but with a scoop of cantaloupe in his.

They were…good. Not great. But you know what was great? The name of this place. The Frigidarium! They weren’t a fully vegan gelato shop but the first choice option still wasn’t open so we walked a few feet and asked the Frigidarium if they had any vegan options and they did.

I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t try it again.

It was a wonderful week and honestly, I could have spent another week there, venturing outside of the city to see the various catacombs and other sites in the Roman countryside. But hey, I guess we have to save something for the next visit.

Thanks for taking a look back on the sights and the vegan eats around Rome!

Romania, here we come!!!
