Something New & Something Sweet to Combat the Heat

Happy Monday, folks. At least I hope your Monday has been a happy one. Mine was/is as it always is. Mondays are for grocery shopping, errands and tennis. It was hot–really hot–outside and bright and sunshiny, which meant tennis was a go!

That always makes it easier to get through the errands despite, well everything.

Now, I had a post all ready for today about some delicious vegan recipe but then I found something unexpected. Something I don’t normally have but when I find it, I occasionally indulge myself. And if not for my Hubs’ need for a new pair of sneakers, I never would’ve found it.

So what was it, you ask? You are totally dying to know aren’t you?

Well…wait no more.

Two words: Ben & Jerry’s.

Two more words: ice cream

Yeah, I know. If you’ve been here a while you know that I’m not much for sweet stuff but there are some sweet treats that make me absolutely giddy and B&J is one of them.

When I lived in Germany there was the Karamel Sutra, which I also liked. A lot. There was another one with banana and something else and I wasn’t all that impressed with it.

And there’s Bohemian Raspberry which is two things I like, Ben & Jerry’s and Queen.

What’s In It?

It’s vegan vanilla ice cream with brownies and raspberry swirl, which sounds pretty great to me.

How Does It Taste?

Honestly? It tastes really good. The ice cream is very creamy without feeling heavy. Full disclosure: I’ve only eaten 42 grams so far b/c I just bought it today but it is really good and if that changes, I will update and re-publish the post.

The raspberry swirl isn’t as sweet as I feared it would be. It was a nice compliment to the clean ice cream flavor with a hint of vanilla and coconut. The serving I ate was pretty low on brownies so I’m hoping the next taste will contain more brownie because brownies are my jam.

What’s It Cost?

I’m not going to lie to you guys; I’m cheap. I don’t mean that as in I’m frugal, when it comes to certain things I can be really, really cheap. Ice cream isn’t a necessity, not for me and I won’t pay a ridiculous cost for something that I don’t really want/need.

For the past few years vegan Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has been about 40 to 45 LEU (Romanian currency), which is about 10 USD and yeah, I know, that isn’t a lot. It’s not, but it’s also not not a lot for a pint of ice cream. Like I said, cheap.

Anyway this new one was 10 LEU cheaper which put it at about $7 so I bit the bullet to test it out. The other factor is also that I’m killin’ it on my weight loss goal and I didn’t feel as hesitant to grab it so…yay me!

Is It Worth It?

Heck yeah! Besides the fact that it just tastes good and the price was right, I’m in a good place where I know I can just weigh out the amount of vegan ice cream I want and just be happy with it and that makes me happy.

And in the words of Forrest Gump;

I will have to look for this. As you might imagine, here in Vermont we find it everywhere and the price is much better. Their other non-dairy ice creams are quite good.

Yeah, I’m sure you might even get access to new flavors before they hit the wider market. B&J was easier to find in Germany but it’s getting easier here too. Let me know if you enjoy it if you find it!

I will! The plant is only about a half hour from me and is great fun to tour! They even have a flavor graveyard for all those flavors they’ve discontinued!
