(More) Vegan Product Reviews

I know, I know it’s been forever since I’ve done one of these and honestly, it isn’t because I haven’t tried out anything new recently. It’s more about the fact that I forget to take photos until it’s too late or I simply don’t make the time.

So today you’re lucky because I have a few products to review and you might even find them…useful?

Broccoli Fingers

My first reaction was, what the hell are broccoli fingers even though the name and the box are a dead giveaway. It’s just that broccoli is already delicious, just roast in the oven with a bit of garlic and it’s literally perfect so why do all of that to it just to make it palatable?

That was my thought anyway but Cos pointed out, rather unhelpfully that some people over the age of 5 don’t actually like broccoli so these vegan broccoli fingers might appeal to them.

Okay, point taken. Reluctantly.

They were breaded and mixed with more than broccoli and of course, they were frozen.

How were they? the broccoli fingers were…all right. They were average at best and were in dire need of seasoning because it was rather bland. We paired them with a vegan burger, which was better but this isn’t something I’ll buy again.

Vegan Burger

Another vegan burger, am I right? Obviously NOT! I love a good vegan burger and I’m down to try a new one whenever it hits the market. This particular burger is from a well-known vegan brand here in Romania, Verdino, and it was marked as ‘high protein’ so I figured “why not” since the price was right.

This vegan burger is made purely from vegetables, which is another plus in the column and it’s rich in iron, zinc and vitamin B12, and it boasts 16 grams of protein per 100 grams and each burger is 220 grams so…yeah, that.

How was it? the burger was good but I think Beyond burgers have spoiled us all. This burger was juicy and it cooked very well in the oven and on the stove–I did one of each–and both were really good. We ate it with the broccoli fingers and by comparison is was AMAZING, but still I would buy it again.

Vegan Cashew Butter

When it comes to nut butters they can get confusing, I think. Is cashew or almond butter meant to be like peanut butter or is it an alternative to actual butter? It sounds dumb, I know but this cashew butter was a head scratcher.

Okay, it wasn’t because the package clearly looks like regular butter and that’s what I used it for, mostly for cookies and to fatten up the Green Linguine Sauce I made.

It’s thicker than most vegan butter and seems to have a lower water content, which made it better for baked goods. It was pricier than the other vegan butter brands available here, which is Naturli and Verdino, but better suited for some things.

Would I buy it again? Not sure, maybe if it was on sale. For now the other brands suit my butter needs just fine since I don’t use it much.

So there you have it, another round of vegan product reviews. The burger is a definite buy again if I find it and the butter is a toss-up. As for the broccoli? I’ll keep it whole and eat my trees like a good little girl!
