Other Vegan Things: Vegan Shoes, Deodorant & More

Hey There.

It’s me again. I hope that all is well in your world.

What’s up with me? I’m working because that’s what I do. I’m working on a steamy short romance as well as a longer follow-up to my freebie, Just One Night, while maintaining a full load of ghostwriting, sales writing & academic writing clients.

Now you can see why vegan cooking is often my respite.

But today I don’t want to talk about food. Don’t get me wrong, vegan food is great. It’s wonderful. It is a testament to our adaptability as a species that we can transform our diets to make them healthier for us as well as for the environment. But living a vegan lifestyle isn’t just about what we put in our bodies. It is also about what we put on our bodies and just how we live our lives.

As for me, I am one of those vegans who doesn’t even eat honey and that’s okay with me. I try, to the best of my ability, to engage in a cruelty-free life in terms of what I buy, what I use and how I treat the other beings on this Earth with me. It can be difficult at times but only when it comes to availability. I don’t find it difficult or taxing to search a little longer for the things that I want and how I want them.

My preferred clothing options are cotton and I try like hell to make sure it’s 100% cotton but that’s not always the case because some cotton has elasten in it. However I stay away from cotton blends for new clothes and I keep and use things that I owned before going vegan. That is also true of my shoes, which brings me to my first vegan thing.

I found a pair of accidentally vegan sneakers! Because of a tendon issue I’ve been experiencing for the past few months I decided to buy a pair of lace-less sneakers that I can wear for general walking, especially when I’m on holiday. It was hard to find any that weren’t leather and within my pre-set budget. The budget was a bigger issue than anything because I have a bad habit of being cheap. So weeks passed with a bunch of things just sitting in my “favorites” on various shopping websites and when I checked back, BOOM I found something.

A pair of Sketchers which was a shock because I haven’t worn them since the 90’s. My hubs loves them so I should’ve thought of them sooner but I really didn’t think about them being vegan. They fit the criteria so I clicked on the shoe and read the specs and lo and behold…VEGAN.

Yep, shocked the hell out of me too!

They are–so far–comfortable and airy. The only problem is that I think they’re meant to be worn without socks which is a problem for me. Sure, they’re washable, but still. I am not one of those people who wears sneakers without socks. I just…cannot.

But I will keep you posted.

Other Accidentally Vegan Things This Week

I was in Lidl as I am every Monday and I was perusing the clearance section due to the aforementioned cheapness and I came across this brand of deodorant, Fa. I don’t ever remember seeing it growing up in the U.S. but if it’s there now, let me know. Anyway, there was a scent that sounded delicious so I picked it up and turned it around and it was vegan!

They didn’t advertise it but I’ve found in Europe that if you look on the back they’ll tell you if a product is also vegan without advertising that it’s vegan. So, yeah, Fa has vegan deodorant and it smells yummy, a fact which my armpits appreciate.

Then on Sunday Cos and I were visiting family and our cousin gifted me a jar of moisturizer because it’s no secret that I have nice skin and that I’m vegan. It’s Garnier and right there on the front of the box in big bold letters was that coveted word. VEGAN. I remember Garnier from my high school days but there’s not much else I can say about it other than knowing that it exists. Even still, I was surprised that it was also vegan.

I haven’t opened it yet because I have the Balea and Alverde brands of vegan skincare products that I get from DM, a drug store in Europe similar to Walgreens or CVS, minus the pharmacy section.

This last one isn’t new but I figured I’d drop it in just in case anyone was curious. My Kindle cover is also accidentally vegan. Okay maybe not so accidental because I purposely went in search of non-leather textiles and here in Romania the translation for it is eco-leather which is vegan. I think it’s meant to fool vegan haters but it’s a quality product that’s also pretty so when/if my kindle gets dropped or tossed around it survives.

Gotta have my books!

And that’s about it for today. If you’re in search of romance books to read, feel free to check me out on Amazon or my website.

Later!

Yes, definitely. I’m always happy to see when store brands have a vegan option b/c usually they’re budget friendly.

Ah, I love hearing about vegan products all over the world!

I was using vegan make-up since the 1990s after I saw a horrible video about animal testing. At one point I visited the PETA headquarters and thought I may want to work with them, but it wasn’t for me. (Long story, I may blog about it someday).

But, yeah, everything vegan here — belts, shoes, clothing. Even when I get my hair done I make sure it’s a vegan salon, or at least a salon that has vegan products.

One of my favorite vegan shoe lines is “Yes We Vibe.” I have a few pairs of boots from them and people think they are Doc Martens. Their stuff is super cute.

Thanks so much for this awesome post!! (I don’t consume honey either.)
